HOW TO MAKE MILLIONS BEFORE GRANDMA DIES
This is a bitter-sweet family drama from Thailand, which was a huge hit across Asia when it was released in 2024. It features Usha Seamkhum who makes her film feature debut as an elderly grandmother with terminal cancer, who has a tricky relationship with her children. Her grandson M (played by Putthipong Assaratanakul) realises that if he gets closer to her, he could inherit everything - so he starts paying frequent visits and helping her out around the house. They both know what is going on, but the relationship develops despite everything.
How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies is really about the value of family and how we must take the chances we have to get to know people on a more profound level. It is unashamedly sentimental but it has real depth and heart.
The Financial Times wrote: “A sense of Thai real life sings out in everything from congee street vendors to a line of shoes left in lieu of their owners in a queue. But family dramas are universal, and director Pat Boonnitipat skilfully blends tones too. The hard edge gives way to something softer, but the emotional pay-off is earned.”
How to Make Millions is 2 hours 5 minutes long, plus an interval. THE FILM IS SUBTITLED.
