As her marriage disintegrates, a successful high court judge must decide if the courts need to intervene to force a teenage boy to undergo a blood transfusion against his wishes - thereby saving his life.  Emma Thompson is superb as the judge, ably supported by Stanley Tucci, Ben Chapman and newcomer Fionn Whitehead who plays the boy.

The Children Act comes with real pedigree - adapted by Ian McEwen from his own novel and directed by Richard Eyre.  It is a difficult and morally complex story, sensitively and delicately told by an accomplished team.
 
Peter Bradshaw in the Guardian wrote: “The Children Act is concerned with love, intimacy and moral responsibility and it is refreshing to see a movie which sets itself standards of this sort. … Emma Thompson’s performance, so elegant and vulnerable, carries the picture.”
